Chairmans statement - Planning permission granted
Friday 27 February 2026
In November 2023, together with my small team, I began the process of restoring Worcester Warriors to professional rugby as part of a disciplined investment and operating platform focused on the recovery, stabilisation, and sustainable repositioning of historic English rugby institutions.
Our initial mission had two core objectives: competitive reinstatement of Worcester Warriors and the establishment of a financially resilient, sustainable operating model capable of supporting long-term success.
While our return to the Champ has involved considerable complexity, the progress we have made on the pitch and as a club has been extraordinary. We have achieved record season ticket sales, delivered a strong first half of the season, and welcomed crowds that represent nearly 50% of the league’s total attendance. Combined with a more stable and consistent second half of the season we are firmly on course to compete for a home semi-final and to challenge for the league title.
Today, I am delighted to share a major milestone in helping to secure the club’s off-field strength. After a detailed and rigorous process lasting 431 days, planning permission has finally been granted for the development of the land to the north of Sixways Stadium.
This represents a transformative step forward and provides the foundation for a financially sustainable future.
Cllr Richard Morris, Leader of Wychavon and Executive Board Member for Economic Growth and Tourism, said: “I’m delighted for the club and the fans of Worcester Warriors that we’ve been able to support these ambitious plans for the redevelopment of the Sixways site. It will help ensure elite sport stays in our district while providing a boost to local businesses.”
The Sixways masterplan will introduce facilities and complementary uses that reduce reliance on matchday income and shareholder funding, and establishes the stadium site as a year-round destination for sport, health, and industry. It provides the platform required for Worcester Warriors to grow, compete, and thrive at the highest level possible
I would like to thank Wychavon District Council, the planning officers, and our professional team who have worked constructively with us. Importantly, I want to thank you – the supporters – for your loyalty, patience, belief and the game day financial support that is so vitally important to the club.
