
Alex Grove
Scottish star Alex Grove has been one of the key performers at Worcester Warriors over the last few seasons with a number of match winning displays.
A product of the Warriors Academy system, Grove a former pupil of Rugby School who represented Scotland at Under 18s, 19s and 20s before his big breakthrough onto the international stage.
The strong running centre scored four tries for the senior team during the 2008/09 season, including a memorable interception effort against then champions London Wasps.
He was rewarded for his progress with a two-year deal to remain at Sixways Stadium and won a summer call-up to Scotland A as they lifted the iRB Nations Cup in Romania.
Grove received his first call-up to the full Scotland squad for the November internationals in 2009 and started the games with Fiji and Australia and also featured against Argentina. His qualification for Scotland is through his grandfather, Ron Wylie the former Aston Villa and Birmingham City footballer who also managed West Bromwich Albion.
The hard working back made 22 appearances for Warriors during the 2009/10 campaign and scored seven tries – four of them coming in successive games at the end of the season.
Grove’s impressive rise to rugby fame continued in May 2010 when he was named in the Scotland squad to tour Argentina during the summer.
Following a success loan spell at Edinburgh Rugby, Grove returned to Sixways at the start of 2011 and, after clocking up his 50th appearance for Warriors, helped the club achieve its promotion aspirations back to the Aviva Premiership.
Grove once again cemented his place in the Warriors team last season and made the joint second-most appearances alongside Andy Goode with 26.
He finished the season with three tries, including a crucial one in the 19-9 home victory over Newcastle Falcons, who were eventually relegated.
