Scottish star Alex Grove has been one of the key performers at Worcester Warriors over the last few seasons with a number of match winning displays.
Grove, a product of the Academy system at Sixways, is a former pupil of Rugby School who represented Scotland at Under 18s, 19s and 20s before his big breakthrough over the last 12 months onto the international stage.
The strong running centre scored four tries for the senior team during the 2008/09 season, including a memorable interception effort against champions London Wasps.
He was rewarded for his progress with a two-year deal to remain at Sixways Stadium until 2011 and won a summer call-up to Scotland A as they lifted the iRB Nations Cup in Romania.
Grove received his first call-up to the full Scotland squad for the November internationals and started the games with Fiji and Australia and also featured against Argentina. His qualification for Scotland is through his grandfather, Ron Wylie the former Aston Villa and Birmingham City footballer who also managed West Bromwich Albion.
The hard working back made 22 appearances for Warriors during the 2009/10 campaign and scored seven tries – four of them coming in successive games at the end of the season.
Grove’s impressive rise to rugby fame continued in May 2010 when he was named in the Scotland squad to tour Argentina during the summer.
The centre agreed a new contract extension in June 2010 that will keep him at the club until at least 2012. As part of his new contract, Grove joined Edinburgh Rugby as part of a loan agreement that has been designed to give the player the very best chance of being selected for the Scotland World Cup Squad.
Warriors and Edinburgh Rugby, supported by SRU, have agreed that Grove will play his club rugby north of the border until the end of January 2011.
