Former New Zealand international superstar Rico Gear was regarded as one of the most dangerous and clinical wingers in world rugby when he made the move to Worcester Warriors in 2007.

The wing sensation, who scored ten tries in 18 caps for the All Blacks, became one of the biggest signing in the club’s history after agreeing a three-year deal to remain at Sixways until 2010.

The explosive and exciting wing had previously spells with Poverty Bay, Auckland, Bay of Plenty and North Harbour, and played Super 12 rugby for the Auckland Blues and Highlanders.

Gear previously excelled on the international stage since making his All Blacks debut in July 2004 against the Pacific Islanders, where he scored a try. Gear also played in numerous matches against the British and Irish Lions in their 2005 tour of New Zealand and scored his first All Blacks hat-trick against Wales at the Millennium Stadium in 2005.

Gear made a stunning start to his Warriors career with four tries in a match on his full debut - equally the competition record - as Worcester ran riot against GRAN Parma.

The wing scored one of the most memorable individual tries ever seen at Sixways with his solo stunner against Bucuresti Oaks and also scored a breathtaking one-handed effort against Harlequins at Twickenham Stoop.

Despite being hit by a number of unfortunate injuries towards the end of the campaign, Gear still finished the 2007/08 season with a staggering record of 12 tries in only 19 appearances.

Gear, who won a Commonwealth Games gold medal when he was part of the New Zealand Sevens side and also has World Cup Sevens medals, again showed his world class ability and versatility during the 2008/09 campaign as he played at wing, centre and full back.

The wing made a further 24 appearances for Warriors in the 2009/10 season and ended his career at Sixways with 90 points in 66 games when it was announced he would move to Japanese side Kintetsu Liners from May 2010.
