Several other players had been struck down with sickness overnight but battled on in the league clash.
However, Hill was adamant it was no excuse for the defeat and said: "The problem struck overnight in the squad and I was aware of it by 8am this morning. We had four players struggling and some were worse than others.
"Andy Goode was struggling with illness and was vomiting in the warm-up. Danny Gray had the same issue and two or three of our players were struggling. They gave us a lot.
"Danny had to go out and play for us, but I thought he had a superb game. He gave everything he could and one or two had empty tanks by the end.
"Losing your ten is not helpful, but I thought Danny had a good game and kicked his penalties so it is no excuse for us. Danny did remarkable well considering he was ill himself."
