The funds are being raised for Spinal Research and in memory of Dan James, who died after suffering spinal injury as a result of a collapsed scrum. Spinal Research is a pioneering charity. Its aim is to find ways to repair spinal cord injury and reverse the paralysis that results from it. Based in the UK and recognised as a leader in its field, Spinal Research funds groundbreaking projects at scientific and medical institutions around the world.
Dave explained the reason behind the charity challenge in memory of Dan James and said: "Both our families grew up together and Jonathan and Dan used to fish and play together as well as travel to school with one another. I also played rugby with Dan's father Mark at Worcester
"With both of us being ex-front rowers, we feel a strong affinity with the work being undertaken by Spinal Research UK and share a sense of 'there but for the grace of god'.
"I have been involved with rugby both as a player and coach for nearly 40 years and have seen first-hand the devastation and sorrow spinal injury can cause. Monies raised to help Spinal Research has to be worthwhile."
