The 30-year-old winger, who was recently named captain for Samoa in the tournament, is now just one try off equalling the all-time Pacific Nations Cup try scoring record. Lemi needs just one more to join All Black Hosea Gear - the younger brother of former Warriors ace Rico Gear - on eight tries.
Tonga had led the game in Japan 9-6 at half-time courtesy of three penalties from Kurt Morath to two from Samoan fly-half Ki Anufe. But the Samoans got off to a flying start after the break with scrum-half Nalu Tuigamala scoring only two minutes into the second half before Lemi took centre stage on 49 minutes with his seventh try in 31 games for his country.
Lemi and Samoa are next in action against Fiji on Sunday (June 10) at the Prince Chichibu Memorial Stadium in Tokyo.
