As part of the 'Love Food Hate Waste' campaign, Worcestershire County Council have teamed up with Worcester Warriors to help spread the word on saving money and the environment, by cutting down on excess food waste.

Common causes of excessive food waste include people buying too much food, cooking too much food and food going past its use-by date before there is time to eat it. The average family wastes a staggering *£50 worth of food a month - adding up to a massive £680 a year - enough for a break in the sun.

Councillor Anthony Blagg, Worcestershire County Council's Cabinet Member with responsibility for Waste and Sustainability said: "Love Food, Haste Waste is a nationally recognised campaign that offers valuable advice about reducing food waste and saving money in the process.

"Worcestershire County Council is dedicated to continuing to promote this and we are incredibly grateful to Worcester Warriors for helping us provide another successful opportunity to offer this advice and guidance to residents."

Ed Shervington added: "The figures for food waste that the County Council have highlighted are staggering and so we are delighted to be able to provide them with another platform with which to spread their message.

"Obviously as a club we operate on a strict budget and so, as a must, are able to limit the amount of food wasted here on a match day or in hospitality areas, for instance. Hopefully our involvement with promoting the 'Love Food Hate Waste' campaign can go a small way to keeping up awareness of the issue."

Premiership Rugby today announced an extension of their partnership with the UK's largest insurance company, Aviva, for a further three years. The contract extension, which starts in the 2014-15 season, will cover a golden era for club rugby in England and will include a period when the country will host a Rugby World Cup and when rugby union will finally rejoin the Olympic movement.
