Year 5 and 6 students from Witton and Westacre Middle Schools (Droitwich) and St. Barnabas Primary School (Worcester) made welcome returns to the Study Centre prior to half-term for our ever popular 'Shakespeare in the Stands' drama and ICT workshops. Scenes from MacBeth and Romeo and Juliet were enacted by the students under the inspirational guidance of Kieron Jones prior to the groups' return to the Centre to produce a follow up study of their learning. Students researched the life of Shakespeare, life in Shakespearean Stratford, the Globe Theatre and the two plays studied the previous day. Each school produced a comprehensive short film of their work.
Arrow Vale HS made a welcome return to the Study Centre with several familiar faces participating in e-Missions:Operation Montserrat. Following the school's first visit for KS3 Science SATS revision a couple of years ago, several students who participated in the 2008 Easter School as Y8 Middle School students returned to put their skills to the test in an exciting e-Missions simulation exercise.
Earlier in the term the Study Centre facilitated two weeks of ASDAN Wider Key Skills study for Y11 students from Pershore High School. The students were under the tutorship of Progressive Education Training (PET) using our excellent teaching environment and ICT facilities. The first two days saw the students face the Sports Brand Challenge. Student groups created their own logo and marketing slogan, designed and advertised their product and presented their ideas to the rest of the group. Access to the Sixways Stadium provided an appropriate and suitable sporting environment for the filming of group TV adverts.
The Study Centre staff are once again supporting the Warriors Community team in delivering their 'Walk Like a Warrior' programme. Centre staff will deliver the ICT components of the programme. This term sees Chase HS (Malvern) and Droitwich Spa HS students participating in rugby, leadership, team working, life skills, self-esteem and ICT activities.
