The scrum half has been replaced by Dan White (Leeds Carnegie) for the game at Worcester on Friday, February 6 (8pm).
"Dave had been enjoying a superb season and we desperately disappointed he's suffered such a setback. Everyone in the camp wishes him all the best for a speedy recovery," said coach Mark Mapletoft
"We hope he's back in action before the end of the season and able to challenge for a place in the squad for the IRB Junior World Championship."
The 22 includes 10 players capped last season, when England completed a Grand Slam in the Six Nations tournament before reaching the final of the IRB Junior World Championship.
