But the dynamic midfielder has now dropped back into full training and is set to pull on Warriors colours in league action for the first time since injuring his knee against Newcastle Falcons last year.
"Sam will be named in the team providing he comes through our training all week," said Director of Rugby Ruddock.
"He has been given the all clear to drop back into rugby sessions, he has a busy week but if he comes through okay with no adverse impact to his leg then he will be passed fit to play.
"Sam wants to play rugby; he wants to be out on the park and was frustrated he couldn't play last weekend.
"If he does come back in it will be a tough call on Greg King who did very well against Northampton. Sam will know for all his reputation and qualities, he has some competition now and has to deliver."
"It will be pretty much the same panel apart from Sammy," added Ruddock. "Olivier Sourgens came off in the first half at Northampton and it looks like he was some damage around the knee. That could mean surgical intervention, but with key hole we are looking at two or three weeks."
