A re-engagement initiative aimed at disengaged young people with confidence, self-esteem issues or behavioural problems, aged 13/14. After an internal evaluation we found that the majority of students attending were boys at an 85:15 split.
Warriors Community Foundation are committed to working with all members of our local community and so it was decided that we needed to develop a programme that kept the core values of rugby -teamwork, respect, communication, but adapt it in a way that would appeal to more females of this age group.
Through the evaluation we knew the girls wanting to be a part of the programme were interested in sport, but found a variety more appealing and engaging. We have now developed partnerships with various providers and through the 8 week programme they participate in zumba, gymnastics, cheerleading, street dance, contemporary dance and rugby.
We have also teamed up with the local gym to take part in Pilates and Circuits. Danielle Waterman from England Women's rugby team has led some of our sessions both in and outside the classroom and inspired the girls in the direction of achieving their goals.
