Year 8 students from Christopher Whitehead Language College, studying an ASDAN Sports and Fitness module, reaped the benefits of expert delivery from Kit Manager Chris Derrick who introduced the youngsters to the world of playing kit, in particular the use of protective gear by players. Chris visited the Centre with bag in tow to demonstrate items of kit and to explain how the right kit can help to protect the players from injury.

Students then researched the costs of purchasing such items as mouth guards, scrum caps and shoulder guards from a range of well known suppliers prior to presenting their findings in graph format as part of their work in literacy, numeracy and ICT.

Physio Ben MacDonald delivered a workshop for the same group of students when following up Chris' work by introducing the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries. Ben treated his audience to some graphic explanations of the human anatomy and the frequent injuries suffered by the Warriors players. The students had the added bonus of participating in the workshop in the players' room and in the Indoor Training Centre where the students tried out some strengthening exercises for ankle, knee and hamstring injuries. As part of their course work the students produced a brochure to inform the public of common rugby injuries.

Next Wednesday a group of Year 6 students from four local Primary schools will be attending 'Shakespeare in the Stands' when they will participate in a drama workshop to create an abridged version of MacBeth and to discover the life and times of the bard as an introduction to future work in their Key Stage 3 studies.
