Ladies

Worcester Ladies

Worcester RFC has a thriving Ladies Section with two senior teams and two youth teams (U15s and U18s) offering rugby for all ages and standards from novices to internationals. The Ladies 1st XV compete in the RFUW Premiership and finished 5th in the league last season. Coached by Luke Fisher, from Hartpury College, and Donna Kennedy, capped 115 times for Scotland, the 1st XV aspire to a top four finish in 2011-2012.

The 2nd XV, affectionately known at the Wahines, are aiming to win the RFUW Midlands National Challenge 1 league this season, having come a close second last year. Led by head coach Steve Watkins, who is joined for the first time this season by Rich Happle, the 2nd XV is an exciting mixture of seasoned heads mixed with complete novices.

The club has a long history of players achieving international success, with five players representing their respective countries at the 2010 Women's Rugby World Cup. This season eight Worcester girls have been selected to the English Elite Playing Squad, Charlotte Keane, Heather Fisher, Jenny Brightmore, Kat Merchant, Laura Keates, Lydia Thompson, Nolli Waterman and Rochelle Clarke, and already this year have helped their country to secure the Six Nations, European Sevens (along with teammate Sarah Guest) and Nations Cup titles. Tracy Balmer continues the Scottish traditions of the club, representing Scotland in the 2011 Six Nations.

New players are invited to come down to training to see for themselves what the Ladies Section are all about. Novices or experienced players, those wanting serious rugby or those keen to enjoy the social side of the game are all welcome. The Ladies train at 7pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays and the U15s and U18s from 7pm on Wednesday evenings on the Weston's pitches.
